Arimoto Farm
Minabe, Wakayama Prefecture
Brewery Story
Arimoto Farm is a family-run ume orchard located in the Iwashiro district of Minabe, Wakayama, Japan's most famous region for premium Nanko plums. The family's agricultural journey began in 1947, initially cultivating citrus fruits and nursery trees before turning its full attention to ume cultivation in the early 1970s.
As the orchard expanded, so too did its ambition. In 2010, Arimoto Farm began exploring how it could create new value as specialist plum growers by producing its own premium umeshu. Commercial production began in 2013, with the launch of the Plumity range the following year.
In 2023, the business was rebranded as Ume Domaine ARIMOTO, becoming Japan's first self-described "Ume Domaine". From growing the fruit to producing the finished umeshu, every stage takes place under one roof, allowing the unique terroir of Minabe to shine through in every bottle while redefining the future of premium umeshu.
Brewing Philosophy and Production
At Arimoto Farm, everything begins with the belief that the true character of the plum should always take centre stage.
Using mainly fully ripened Nanko plums grown in its own orchards, the team harvests the fruit at peak maturity to capture its natural fragrance, sweetness and complexity. Each batch is produced in small quantities, allowing the fruit to be assessed individually and handled with exceptional care throughout production.
Rather than relying on additives, Arimoto Farm focuses on expressing the natural personality of the fruit. Careful maturation is equally important, allowing time to develop greater depth, elegance and aromatic complexity.
Because the same people both grow the fruit and craft the umeshu, every bottle reflects the unique characteristics of the land, the harvest and the people behind it.
Style and Signature Expressions
Plumity challenges the traditional perception of umeshu as simply a sweet liqueur.
Instead, it celebrates the pure aroma, vibrant acidity and fresh fruit character of premium Nanko plums. Elegant floral notes, bright acidity and remarkable depth create an umeshu that feels refined rather than heavy.
Designed to be enjoyed alongside food in much the same way as wine, Plumity offers a sophisticated, gastronomic approach to umeshu, introducing an entirely new style that showcases the true potential of Japan's finest plums.
